Chili to Warm Your Heart

Now that it’s getting a little cooler, a pot of soup can be a great meal for the family.  Add a side salad and some whole wheat rolls and this is one filling meal!

1 med. yellow onion

½ lb. (95%) lean ground beef

½ lb. ground turkey (breast)

1 28 oz. can tomatoes (diced or crushed, no salt added)

1 14.5 oz. can diced tomatoes w/chilies

2 15 oz. cans Ranch Style beans

2 Tbsp. chilies diced

1 Tbsp. cilantro chopped

1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce

1 tsp. molasses or brown sugar

1 tsp. garlic diced

Directions:

Brown onion in pot. Add ground meat and cook until browned. Stir in tomato products. Simmer over medium-low heat for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in beans, season with Worcestershire, sugar (or Stevia), salt & pepper.

Serves 6 (2 cups each)

Nutrients per serving: 226 calories, 4.8g fat, 1.6g sat fat, 52mg cholesterol, 645mg sodium, 22.2g carbs, 5.8g fiber, 24g protein, 66.3mg calcium, 988mg potassium

Tip: Great prepare-ahead dish for your family!
